We can’t say it enough. If you’re not experiencing beautiful, sunny Arizona during the deer rut, you’re missing out. Didn’t draw a coveted Arizona elk tag this year? No sweat. You can still hunt the Grand Canyon State in 60 to 70-degree weather in December an January during the peak of the deer rut!

Here are three things you should know about Arizona deer hunting opportunities:

  1. Good Draw Odds for Rifle HuntsArizona Coues Deer

Believe it or not, it doesn’t take a pile of bonus points to draw a quality rifle deer hunt in Arizona. There are some excellent Coues deer hunts and even mule deer hunts with great draw odds. Some of these hunts can be drawn with less than three points!

If you’re not applying for deer in Arizona, this one is a no brainer. Sign up for our Bonus Point Program, and we’ll even handle the application process for you. You’ve got a great shot at drawing a rifle tag for trophy Coues deer or a mule deer hunt.

  1. Over-the-Counter Archery Hunts

If you’re not lucky enough to draw a rifle deer tag your first year, you can still hunt Arizona this year and every year! Arizona offers some outstanding over-the-counter archery hunts for Coues deer and mule deer. While you build up a few points for that rifle tag, go hunting in the meantime!

These archery hunts are a blast, and they are hands-down our favorite trips to guide. You’ll be putting stalks on deer in some of Arizona’s most beautiful country. This is particularly a great hunt in December and January because it coincides with the deer rut. When the weather is cold elsewhere and most hunting seasons are over, head to Arizona for an epic desert archery hunt!

  1. Don’t Neglect Early Season OpportunitiesArchery Mule Deer Hunt

While the rut hunts for Coues deer and mule deer are fun for obvious reasons, don’t neglect the incredible early-season opportunities in Arizona! This might be some of the most underrated hunting anywhere right now!

In addition to late-season over-the-counter archery deer hunts, Arizona also offers an early season OTC archery hunts for deer. These hunts run from late August through mid-September and are available for both Coues deer and mule deer.

These early season hunts allow you to spot and stalk with a bow when the deer are still in velvet! Still in their late-summer patterns, deer at this time are still predictable and spend much of the day bedded in the same places, making a spot-and-stalk archery hunt a ton of fun. Best of all, these tags are also available over the counter!

So while the late-season opportunities get all the attention, don’t overlook a great chance to hunt deer with a bow early in the year before they’ve had any other hunting pressure.

Overall, Arizona offers some outstanding deer hunting possibilities. Whether you want to hunt this year with a bow, or start applying for a quality rifle deer hunt, we’d love to help you get started.
